Wedding of Jenn and Ricky

I had the pleasure of coordinating Jenn and Ricky’s wedding on Saturday, November 15. Jenn and Ricky are a young couple. He lives in Texas; she in Maryland. How did they meet? Ricky actually came to Maryland to intern at the place where Jenn worked. That was in 2005. It wasn’t until two years later that Ricky realized he liked Jenn and asked her into a relationship. A lot of their courtship was by phone and notes. One thing lead to another and Ricky popped the question this past May.

Jenn is not into a lot of fluff, so her decorations were simple, yet elegant and fit her personality. Her colors were red, silver and white. The guys wore “chucks” (I think that’s what they called them) as their choice of shoes. Even one of the pastors wore a pair. The bride’s father wore red ones. I bet their feet didn’t hurt at the end of the evening.

The ceremony was to begin at 3pm, however, we started at 3:15pm as several guests were late due to traffic and rain. They had eight bridesmaids and groomsmen so it was a little crazy getting everyone to line up and ready to walk down the aisle as couples. The only glitch in the ceremony happened at the beginning when the groom’s mother and bride’s mother went to light the family candles. They lit them, but then lit the Unity Candle, too, and then blew out the family candles. Oh, well. Jenn and Ricky just pretended to light it during the ceremony.

After the ceremony, there was a light cookie and punch reception for all the guests. There was a private reception held later in the evening at the Oxon Hill Manor. This is a beautiful mansion. Catering was done by Matters of Taste Distinctive Catering. As guests arrived, they enjoyed cocktails and Hors d’Oeuvres of cheese and bruschetta. The cake and cupcakes were made by the bride’s aunt who specializes in cupcakes. They were outstanding. For dinner, there were three food stations for guests to enjoy. The pasta station featured Linguini Alfredo with vegetables, Penne Pasta with Tomato Concasse and Italian Bread. At the Island Paradise station, Grilled Chicken with Mango Sauce, Rice and Peas and Tropical Tossed Salad were the choices and at A Touch of Asia station, guests enjoyed Thai Beef with Lemon Grass, Steamed Dumplings with Plum Sauce, Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Thai Noodle Salad.

Friends of Jenn also put together a candy bar with organza bags for guests to take as favors. However, I saw most of the guests munching on that candy during the reception.

After everyone had a chance to eat and mingle, the Best Man gave a toast, followed by cutting the cake. Immediately afterwards, the bride and groom had their first dance followed by the father/daughter and mother/son dances. Then, it was time to party. Guests enjoyed dancing the rest of the night away.

When the reception ended, the guests waved goodbye to the new Mr. and Mrs.
